Teaching the Quran online since 2009
Taqwa Foundation is an online Quran academy. We have been teaching families one-to-one since 2009, and more than 5,500 students have learned with us in that time. Around 250 are studying with us right now.
That is the whole of it, and everything below is just the detail behind those numbers.

Most families do not put off Quran classes because they do not care. They put them off because starting is hard.
The local classes are at the wrong time, the teacher who was recommended is full, and the weeks keep passing while the intention stays an intention.
We started in 2009 to remove that friction: a qualified teacher, at a time that actually fits your week, in your own home, for one student at a time. Umer Hameed Sheikh started it that year, and still owns it. His three sons, Muhammad Huzaifa Umer, Muhammad Sobaan Umer and Muhammad Harris Umer, run it day to day now.
The model has not changed since, because it still works. What has changed is the number of families in it.
What we believe about teaching
- 1
One student at a time
Every class we teach is one-to-one. Not because group classes are wrong, but because a teacher who is listening to one person can hear the exact letter where a rule breaks, and stop there.
- 2
The teacher is everything
Parents do not leave academies over pricing. They leave because a teacher was impatient, or because six months passed with no visible progress. So the teacher is where our effort goes: vetting before hiring, and rematching without argument when a fit is wrong.
- 3
Parents should be able to watch
You are welcome to sit in on any class, at any time, for as long as you like. This is not a concession we make to nervous parents. It is how we think Quran teaching should work.
- 4
Honest timelines
Children who start from the letters usually read short surahs in around six months. Usually, not always, and never guaranteed. Any academy that promises you a date is guessing.
Who we teach
Families in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and students beyond them. Children starting at four or five. Adults who never had the chance as children. Sisters who want a female teacher. Students memorizing the whole Quran, and students working toward a certified ijazah.
The youngest students we teach are 4. Below that a child cannot really hold a class yet. There is no upper limit, and some of our most committed students started in their sixties.

Why families trust us with this
We know what the worry actually is. You are handing a stranger on the internet half an hour alone with your child, several times a week, and paying for the privilege.
A business registered in the United States
Not an anonymous account and a payment link.
Local payments
In the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, so you are not wiring money abroad.
Since 2009
Years of families, most of whom found us through other families.
One number, honestly
5,500+ students taught since 2009 is a lifetime figure, not a count of who is in class today. We do not blur the two.
Two free classes before any payment
You meet the teacher, watch them teach, and decide afterwards. Most families who take both trial classes choose to stay.
Taqwa Foundation trades as a DBA registered in Texas, and operates from Sugar Land, TX 77498.
The people who teach
Our teachers include huffaz, those who have memorized the Quran entirely, and teachers holding ijazah in recitation. Every teacher is vetted before they teach a single student, and only credentials we have verified ever appear on a teacher's card.
Meet our teachers and see how each one is chosen and matched.

FAQs
How long has Taqwa Foundation been teaching?
Since 2009, which is more than fifteen years. In that time we have taught over 5,500 students.
Where are you based?
Taqwa Foundation is registered in the United States, trading as a DBA in Texas and operating from Sugar Land. Our teachers teach almost entirely from Pakistan, and some of our admin staff work from the United States and Australia.
Is Taqwa Foundation a charity?
No. Taqwa Foundation is a business, not a charity, and we do not describe it as one. Where families sponsor another family’s child, that is one family helping another, and it is not tax-deductible.
Are you an online school or an academy?
We are an online Quran academy. Classes are private and one-to-one, scheduled around your family rather than a fixed term timetable.
How do I know this is not a scam?
It is a fair question to ask of anyone on the internet. We are a US-registered business, we take local payments in several countries, we have taught since 2009, and we do not take payment details before your two free classes. You meet the teacher first.
Can I speak to someone before booking?
Yes. Book the free trial and a member of our team calls you to confirm the details and answer anything outstanding, usually within two hours. If you would rather start with a call, we are on +1 (888) 258-8858.
Meet the teacher before you decide anything
The fastest way to know who we are is to watch one of our teachers work with your child for half an hour.
